On Friday this past week, Tucker Carlson gave the West the final word about Gonzolo Lira.
Gonzalo Lira, Sr. says his son has died at 55 in a Ukrainian prison, where he was being held for the crime of criticizing the Zelensky and Biden governments. Among some of my friends, he was a foolish grifter who had a history of making terrible decisions that blew up in his face. It was this last thing that got him in over his head and resulted in him getting what he deserved.
Among others, he was a man who--when presented with a chance to do good--took it and did the best he could with it. For the wrong reasons? Sure. Done in the most half-assed and bone-headed manner possible? Sure. Easily coopted by others with ill intent of their own? Yeah. But he did do good as well as he could, despite himself, as a lot of what the big picture stuff he said in his videos and livestreams turned out to be correct.
Both of these takes are true.
His wife now a widow and his children by her are now without a father.
There will be plenty of lengthy eulogies and condemnatory rantings to be had about him. You will find neither here. YouTube, Twitter, Rumble, Odysee, Locals, and so many other outlets are full of both; you can search them all until you're satiated or worse.
He was a man. His ambition exceeded his ability time and again over the years, including his ability to assess risk verses reward and desire versus responsibility, and that undid him in the end. Just because he turned out like Fredo doesn't me he was not a man.
Pray for the repose of his soul, and for mercy to be granted to his now-fatherless children.
